Persia is a Partner at Hicksons specialising in insurance law and litigation, specifically financial lines. Persia works primarily with insurers in claims arising from directors’ and officers’ policies, and has a focus on climate and cyber risks.

Financial Lines Insurance

With over 12 years’ experience in insurance litigation, Persia has worked with financial lines insurers, providing coverage advice and acting in the defence of insureds in claims arising out of directors’ and officers’ liability and professional indemnity insurance policies.

Persia has worked with both Australian and global financial lines insurers and acted in complex disputes including class actions. She has also acted in several defamation proceedings, including for medical professionals, individuals, not-for-profit organisations, government agencies, and universities.

Persia’s completion of lengthy secondments with two global insurers has further enhanced her business acumen and in-depth understanding of her clients’ goals and business needs. This understanding underpins Persia’s practical approach to successfully resolving claims efficiently while protecting underlying commercial relationships.

Persia’s expertise extends into evolving and emerging legal risks, including cyber and climate risks, and their impact on insurers, companies and their directors and officers.

Cyber Risk

Persia has acted in a range of cyber matters advising on privacy, mandatory notification obligations and other legal issues arising from cyber incidents. Persia also advises insurers on coverage issues arising from cyber incidents.

As boardroom accountability in cyber risk continues to evolve, Persia works with clients to effectively mitigate and manage those risks, and directly respond to cyber incidents.

Climate Risks

In managing the risks related to climate and sustainability, Persia’s approach is one of risk mitigation, ensuring that her clients are empowered and prepared to respond to the challenges presented by climate change. Key areas in which Persia assists clients include:
  • advising organisations and their insurers on managing risks around climate change and climate litigation;
  • preparing organisations and their insurers for increased regulation and disclosure obligations relating to the management of climate risks; and
  • advising as to the risk of climate litigation.
Persia is passionate about education and the mentoring of young lawyers and has created and championed training and education programs for junior lawyers throughout her career.

Persia holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Sydney. She was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2011 and the High Court of Australia in 2012.
